Day 35
Have you ever heard of Turnips at Borough Market in London. I haven’t until I was there a few days ago. I probably walked past it many times, when I visited the area, but did not notice. After all Borough Market, is just full of Foodies and Delis just everywhere. The smells and aromas of most of the foods served there, are just very inviting to say the least. So how did I hear about Turnips.?
As I was walking through the Market, I overheard a young man speaking to another. He went on to say that The Founder of Turnips started growing crops from a small area of land, it could have been his back garden, and started selling them from home. He eventually got bigger and started selling at Markets until he ended up at Borough Market. His voice faded as he moved through the crowds of people, and as I looked to my right, I spotted Turnips. It was a Greengrocers. I was very interested to know more. Once I was home in the evening, I went on the Net to find out. From starting small, the Founder now owns a Greengrocers in both Borough and Greenwich Markets along with a Restaurant and his journey sounded just wonderful. I just love reading about the adventure and journeys of others, when opening up little businesses, and just getting to know the ups and downs, they have been through, to get where they are today.
My little business is started as a little hobby, and my passion for cooking, back in Bahrain. I am hoping to build a little more, but to still be able to have the fun and passion from the business, without getting overwhelmed. Taking one step at a time is key for me at the moment. And with the help and support of my boys and Rhiannon, I am slowly getting there.
The Summer months are now upon us, and it is very exciting watching, and slowly getting to know the names of the flowers, plants and trees we have in our garden. My Aunt pointed out to me, a few days ago, that we had two large hazelnut trees in our garden. It now makes sense to me, why the squirrels were on these two trees all of Autumn and Winter. It is also very lovely to see apples and plums on the trees, wild brambles sprouting about everywhere, and the different colours of flowers. Being able to bake with fresh apples and plums is just wonderful for a German/Persian Fusion Kitchen.
We have decided, for the moment, not to install a TV in TGC, as the whole idea of coming to stay out in the country, is to be away from TVs. We are going to give it a shot, and see what clients feel about that. The aim is, being in peace and tranquility, unwinding from a busy city, going back to reading a book, walking, trekking, cycling, sitting down, and having a picnic in the fields, enjoying a hot-tub during the colder months. It will be interesting to see the feedback.
