Day 94
Every day seems to get busier as we approach the Christmas season. Preparations, cooking, baking, packaging, and labelling - there are many things to do. I also have several markets and dinners coming up. However, not all these days are consumed with work; in between, there are some lovely family days and outings, giving everything a wonderful balance.
Tomorrow is our Autumn Dinner, where we will welcome another twelve guests around our table. The menu is always a surprise. I only need to know if anyone has allergies or intolerances, and then I work around the menu. Being autumn, the menu will consist of dried fruits, herbs, nuts, and spices. Dessert will be a combination of German and Lebanese cuisines. I am quite excited about preparing, cooking, and baking the dishes.
When I started having a market stall for my cakes last June, I met a lady who also has a stall there. She sells Rapeseed oil, honey, chutneys, and many other delicious items. Over the months, she has been so helpful, advising me in many ways. She is also a keen and professional gardener for over twenty-five years and has a lot of advice for me and Reza as we are just starting off with our trees and garden over the last year. Apart from that, she shares many stories of the past of the area she lives in, and I find it so interesting. Every time I wait to hear more of the lovely things she has to talk about. We exchange emails quite often, and I find myself waiting for her next email each time. She has become such a lovely friend in these last six months, and I feel it is just wonderful to see her at the market every time.
The leaves keep falling, and the trees are almost bare. The squirrels are scurrying about to hide their last bits of food for the winter. The deer come to eat the last leaves of some of the trees and pick up the last crab apples on the ground. The dreaded Glis (edible dormouse) seems to have disappeared into hibernation again until next year, nowhere to be seen.
