And we are back to the cherry trees, our fourth little project. I think this will probably be the toughest of them all, given our absolute zero experience in planting cherry trees. We've been relying on information from the internet, advice from the cherry tree company, and our new friend who has been gardening in the area for more than twenty-five years. We are determined to make this work, as once the trees take off and eventually bear some cherries in the years to come, our actual fourth project may begin.
Out of our initial thirty cherry trees, only fifteen have survived. After discussing sending photos and scrapings back to the company, as per their request, they decided to send us another fifteen cherry trees to plant, showing great enthusiasm to give us a good start to our little orchard. The trees were sent in their dormant stage, and we were advised to plant them as soon as possible before the first frost arrives. So that's what we did over the last two days.
Reza cleared the area, and together we prepared the ground for planting. While I was mostly the labourer in this job, listening to my boss (Reza) telling me what to do, I did my part in removing stones, making the holes bigger, and assisting in planting the trees. The real manpower, though, was contributed by my partner—hee hee!
We decided not to remove the fifteen trees that have now been pronounced dead by the company, just in case they come back to life next spring. We're uncertain about what the roots are doing beneath the soil, so we've opted to wait and see. If they do not live, we'll eventually replace them too.
Clearing the Area to start Digging
That sounds like a lot of work. Good luck with those newcomers
